FILMMAKER STATEMENT
Another short portrait demo shot by me for the 16mm class that Ghetto Film School teaches in partnership with The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens. The main impetus for this one was the Bolex I had acquired in 2023 and my desire to take it for a spin and put it through its paces.
My family took the week of Thanksgiving to drive from our home in Los Angeles to Santa Fe, New Mexico and back again with various stops along the way. I didn't have much of a concept for this one; was really just shooting from the hip. It wasn't until I got the footage back that I honed in on the idea of making a film about what it's like to be on a long car trip when you're a kid.
